| Blennerhassett This small hamlet southeast of Rethmar originated with a handful of cottages and a blacksmithy centered around the manor of Duke Khemberlyn Blennerhassett. Blennerhassett Manor was a rambling affair, famed for its indoor zoo and four enclosed courtyards, in which the Duke placed many rare and delicate plants of great beauty. The village is best known for its exotic breeds of flowers and plants, varieties found nowhere else in this part of Faerun. It seems that when Blennerhassett Manor was burned, some of the Duke's prized botanical specimens survived and took root in the surrounding fields. Every Greengrass and Highharvestide, a fair is held in the huge central market square (which sits atop the original four courtyards of the manor), which draws plant fanciers, botanists, and alchemists from afar. One night shortly after Midsummer 1214 DR, Blennerhassett Manor was engulfed in unnatural purplish flames. To this day, the origin of the Duke's unseen foes remains unknown, but rumors have run wild. The flames utterly consumed Blennerhassett Manor and the entire family within, but sunrise the next morning saw the surrounding buildings untouched. The only evidence that the manor once stood there were the charred and blackened "footprints" of the four courtyards. Ebon: Today the village is known mainly for the shipping imports from the south and trade products from the north. A one-way portal in the river sends incoming ships back up the river some 90 miles to Harpersford. The departure is relatively passive, except for the clap of air that rushes fill the gap left over from the ship; the arrival is much louder (hence the nickname Loudwater) at Harpersford, with air and water expulsed rapidly. The portal is rather unusual and doesn't "read" as magical in nature. Wizards and sorcerers from far and wide have come to study the nature and origin of the portal. |
