| Mir (aka Nathen's Gate, Yesmar Naittam) A small hamlet set amid heavily-forested hills of Hills-n-Dale, Mir is lored to be the site of an elven summer-residence known as Caihr Killian, "The Final Rest". Mir is now a settlement of about three dozen small buildings surrounded by well-kept gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees. Mir lies at the bend of fast-flowing rapids known collectively as Glaemril, and is beginning to see increasing traffic as rumors of an underground Labyrinth (near the Greypeak Mts. to the south) grow. More and more adventurers travel through the village to reach the mountains. The number of individuals making a return trip is much smaller, and so as of yet no inns or boarding houses have been set up, although many locals will agree to rent out their barn lofts for those wishing to stay the night. Also, visiting Harper agents or passing militia and nobility are welcomed to stay at the militia barracks, a small, cramped building that also houses the village's small armory. There is only one tavern in Mir, a large, barn-like structure; in winter, it is packed full of locals, but on warmer summer nights they spill out into the courtyard, sitting on makeshift trestles and chairs. Visiting bards are readily welcomed, and one willing to spin a few tales and deliver the news from afar will find a hearty meal and a warm bed in the tavern's attic waiting for him/her. Nathen's Gate: The only presumable remnant of elven inhabitation is a large, historic gate covered in fading ancient markings. The largest (and most widely known) inscription, "Naittam Yesmar", or "Nate's Darkwatch" (some read "yesmar" as passage/ doorway/ portal of Naitt-Mir) is likely the source for Mir's common name, Nathen's Gate. |
